One the oldest perpetually inhabited cities in the world, Susa dates back to at least 5000 BC. The Mesopotamian sculptures in the Louvre originated in this great city and show the impressive craftsmanship of early civilizations. A variety of metals were used in the sculptures, and the processes used to fashion works of art such as the three-footed bowl with ibex made of bitumen took patience and skill.
