Believed to be the funeral mask of a great Mycenaean warrior, the Mask of Agamemnon could date back to as far as 1500 BC and is a quintessential representative of the Mycenaean style of art. However, since the late 1900s, the authenticity of the mask has been put into question based on certain aspects of its appearance and the conditions under which it was found. The gold Mask of Agamemnon and four others were found over the graves of what were clearly important and affluent Mycenaean men.
