Floralis Generica, a huge steel and aluminium sculpture, was created by Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano and donated to the city of Buenos Aires in 2002 . Located in the United Nations Park next to Recoleta and behind the Mueso de Bellas Artes, the enormous flower is on permanent public display. Wieghing over 18 tons and standing 23 metres high, the Flor has 6 motorised, 13 meter high petals that unfold each morning and close again every night. The petals are illuminated with pink and red lightning during the flower's daily opening and closing, a 20 minutes procedure.
