Whale shark watching in Watamu

Listed under Wildlife in Malindi, Kenya.

Whale Sharks are the largest living fish species on the planet. These slow filter feeding sharks are found mostly in warm waters, and found abundantly in Watamu, Kenya, where whale shark watching and diving are two popular tourist activities. Whale Shark watching expeditions run through the waters looked after by Watamu National Marine Park. The marine park is the oldest in Kenya and is known for its world-renowned snorkling and diving areas. While diving on the inside of the reef, dozens of species of fish can be seen, while on the fringes of the reef lie the whale sharks and manta rays. Private charters have rides that go out for dolphin and whale shark watches daily. The whale sharks are mostly seen during the months of February and March and are marked by the distinctive gold and silver looking shingles on their backs that wink in the sun and can easily be seen from a boat.
