Ranomafana National Park, rano for water and mafana for hot, surrounds a lush valley with hot springs on the valley floor. Ranomafana is also known for its lemur population. Two different, rare species live in the park, protected from human development because of the region's mountain range and dense rain and cloud forests. In 1991 the park became Madagascar’s fourth national park.
