A protected area homing India’s endangered Bengal Tiger, the Corbett National Park, a jungle in the shadows of the Himalayas, is also home to over 650 species of animal (including 37 different species of dragon flies) and 480 different kinds of plants.
Named after Jim Corbett, the Irish, Indian-born hunter and naturalist, it was the first park established in India when it was first created in 1936 as Hailey National Park. The park didn’t fare so well during WWII when it suffered poaching and tree felling, but Jim Corbett Park is now a major eco-tourism destination.
