Most of Cape Cod’s whales are baleen whales, which are the varieties that feed on krill and plankton through their grill like plates or teeth, including Blue Whales, Fin Whales, Minkes and the most common the Humpbacks. These are the gentle giants of the deep. The humpbacks that spend their summers here spend their winter months in the Caribbean where they calve. They arrive here early spring to begin feeding and fattening up their calves whoes sizes increase dramatically. Humpbacks are a whale watchers favourite because their behaviour is the most interesting to watch, slapping, breaching and rolling. Fins are the biggest whales you’ll see here. Again go with a crew with a biologist or a naturalist on board to get the most out of your experience.

The best action happens May through October.
