Taveuni Island is known as the ‘the garden isle’. A short hike into this canopied area of north east Fiji will lead you to Fiji’s most famous falls. Crossing rope bridges and burnt orange paths, you will enter into an acropolis of ferns, palms, Ti plants and other tropical flowers. Before you then falls the first of the three waterfalls, the highest towering above you at over 80 feet.

You can choose to have a guided tour to the top but if you don’t fancy navigating your way to the higher ground, the lowest of the falls is worth a wander round.

Beyond, a wide grass path along Bouma river reaches an area of natural beauty, surrounded by red and yellow ginger, where tropical birds crowd a pool. There are picnic tables and a small changing area and cool water to wade into.

Climb over some of the towering boulders behind the falls, jump through the curtain of water and look out onto the panoramic view before you.
