Jim Jim Creek cuts through the bright orange rock of the Arnhemland escarpment and plunges suddenly down 200metres into the clear, sandy pool below, filling the air with spray. In the wet season you can only reach the falls by helicopter or plane the area is so flooded but in the dry season the falls dwindle to a trickle and you can drive in and get much closer.

These falls have graced the pages of many Kakadu and Australia calenders – most of the best shots were taken during the peak of the dramatic wet – so it's a popular site and sight for visitors to the park, and a few basic conveniences have been added to the dirt walking trail and basic barbecues for people who prefer bathrooms to an alfresco toilette.
