My trip to Jamaica was on a cruise that my husband and I took in April 2009. I was somewhat hesitant to partake in the excursion to Dunn's River Falls because it's approximately 600ft high and I have a fear of heights. But, when I heard and saw the pictures of this beautiful area, I had to go and see for myself. It is awesome, and a must see if you ever take a cruise or fly to Ocho Rios. I would suggest you wear beach shoes that have rubber soles because the rocks can be very slippery when climbing. Also, the locals tend to climb right along with you when you are with a tour-guide, so be careful because the tour up the falls can get very crowded and for those of us who are inexperienced climbers can find yourselves a little overwhelmed, so take your time and listen to your guide and hold carefully to your partner. There are several stopping points where you will be able to take pictures while enjoying the rush of the waterfall at your back. It's refreshing and very relaxing to feel the power of the falls all around you. When you finally get to the top, the view is even more beautiful because you can see the falls emptying into the sea. You will also be able to buy a video of your experience if you like. This tour is fun and unforgettable!

This was an excursion on the Royal Caribbean cruise I took in 2006. The waterfall and surrounding vegetation was beautiful, and it was a thrill to climb up hand-in-hand with my group. It was actually more challenging than I thought so be careful with your steps!

As a side note, get dropped off at the falls by a yacht transfer if it's available. I had the time of my life dancing and drinking run punch with the Jamaican boat hostesses. If you ask nicely, they might just let you buy their mixed CD of island tunes...it's a great pick-me-up when you find yourself back on the cloudy mainland a couple weeks later!
