A beautiful, dynamic landscape leading to the sea.

Background by editor: There are multiple trails along and around the Severn estuary, and you can walk for a few hours, a whole day or do a multi day trip up the river.

Birdwatchers will enjoy a stroll along the mudflats of Bridgewater Bay Nature Reserve where 190 different bird species have been recorded or just up the channel at Brean Down, also known for its birds and wildlife. A Victorian sea wall encloses the salt marshes at Uphill Nature Reserve, home to more sea birds and on higher ground fields of buttercups.

If your interest lies in breathtaking views walk up to Sand Point where bright flowers poke their faces out of the limestone rocks and there are views across to Wales. Other popular estuary trails are Poets Walk, from Clevedon to the Blind Yeo sluice and along the sea wall, and along Aust Cliff, famous for the range of fossils found in the cliffs layers.

Before walking anywhere along the estuary check the tides, part of the appeal of walking in this region is their speed which can also be very dangerous.
