Ascent of the magnificent three-headed peak of Mount Triglav, Slovenia's highest mountain at 9,396 ft (2, 864 m). Background by editor: The peak of snow capped and rocky Mount Triglav is topped with the Aljazev stolp a seven or eight foot round shed, built in 1895, which is an important monument to the Slovenian nation, the mountain is an important national symbol, and provides short term shelter for climbers. The mountain itself is much higher than any of it’s neighbours in the Julian alps and is surrounded by deep valleys enhancing Triglav’s height and the drama of the view. The first summit of Triglav was in 1778, but it is now Slovenia’s most climbed peak with four trails leading to the summit and plenty of ropes and ladders built into the rock to assist climbers. The easiest path to the summit is on the mountain’s southern face which is broader and less rugged. You can also arrange to stay overnight in hut accommodation on the mountain.
