My family and I stumbled upon this cultural gem while road tripping one summer, and I have to say, it was a fantastic find. The World's Only Corn Palace has its home in Mitchell, South Dakota. The outside of the building is decorated with colorful murals made from corn husks, oats, straw and wheat. Every year a local artist is selected to create a new mural to grace the palace walls - so the Corn Palace is always changing.
The inside of the builiding is a multi-purpose arena for music performances, festivals and sporting events. When I visited, the Corn Palace was hosting a local craft fair, complete with homemade food and handmade trinkets.
What's great about the Corn Palace is that it's a great break from the sometimes long and empty highways of South Dakota. Cute, fun and great for families.
