There may be no such thing as a free lunch but in Amsterdam you can get a free boat trip. A free 24 hour ferry service crosses between the city centre and North Amsterdam passing by Amsterdam’s oldest port. It’s only a five minute trip and an easy crossing, but it’s still a free way to get out on the water and the old port is quite interesting enough to look at for a couple of minutes at no charge - the rest of the time you have a view of Amsterdam’s waterfront.
But wait there’s more: the ferry leaves every seven and a half minutes between 0630 and 2100 and every quarter of an hour for the rest of the time. The Buikersloterwegveer leaves from platform seven.
