Located at 239 Arch Street near Independence Mall is the house of America’s most famous seamstress. At the Betsy Ross House, you can step back into time as you explore the house where Ross supposedly sewed the first American flag. The house has been furnished as it would have been in Colonial times with some of Ross’s own things, such as her family Bible. For a small fee, there is an audio tour for those who want to learn more about the woman and her role in history in depth. You can also visit the site where Ross and her third husband are buried.
HELPFUL HINT: In the summer, there are free programs available in the courtyard, such as historical plays and opportunities to meet Ross and other historical figures.
