For parents trying to get their progeny interested in the ancient world, Terra Mitica may prove a useful starting point? It’s a theme park based on the ancient civilizations. ‘Egypt’ has a log ride called ‘Falls of the Nile’, a boat ride called ‘Alexandra’s Port’ and an indoor paintball game called ‘Terror Piramyd’ – it’s unclear what the connection there is. ‘Greece’ has the ‘The Labyrinth of the Minotaur’, ‘Triton’s Fury’ and ‘Synkope’ a spinning ride and in ‘Rome’ there is a rollercoaster called ‘Magnus Colossus’ and one of those sickening drops rides called ‘The Flight of the Phoenix’. ‘The Islands’ have an animatronic ride called ‘Ulysses’ Rescue’.

It’s not just the rides which are trying to blend the ancient with the very very recent, it’s also the shows, they do a ‘Gladiator’s Fight’ in front of the ‘Circus Maximus’ and inside there is a show staring a clown (?) who takes you through history, while ‘Red Beard’ and his band of seven pirates terrorises a ‘typical’ Mediterranean town in the section of the park called ‘Iberia’… Why bother studying history…
