The Mirabell Palace was built at the beginning of the 17th Century for the secret lover of an Archbishop, though it’s hardly a secretive building. Its Baroque charms were added in the 18th Century, but then part destroyed in a storm which tore away pieces of the façade, leaving it looking more the classical palace, the whole effect has been likened to a smaller version of Paris’s Tuileries. The stand staircase has an intricately designed balustrade which tells mythological tales in its marble carved by Raphael Donner.

Mirabell Gardens

In the much adored film 'The Sound of Music', this garden is where Maria and the children dance around singing 'Do-Re-Mi' around the Pegasus statue.
