Pioneertown is a living, working movie set dating back to 1946. The town was established as a location to film western movies where actors could actually live onset. Famous productions filmed in Pioneertown include The Cisco Kid and Judge Roy Bean.

Today fewer than 500 people reside in the area. Pioneertown’s “Mane Street” is private but open to pedestrians. The town hosts mock gunfights from April through October, and the experimental art installations frequent the town. Pioneertown is home to unique dining, live music and lodging options. The town is easily accessible via California State Route 62 and received a California Scenic Drive designation.
