Monterey Bay Aquarium’s location could not be more ideal as it is situated on the edge of Monterey Bay - one of the world’s largest underwater canyons. The building itself is the site of a former sardine cannery on California’s Cannery Row.

Established in 1984, the aquarium now attracts approximately 1.8 million visitors per year. Major attractions like the Ocean’s Edge galleries bring visitors face to face with a three-story living kelp forest, while the Outer Bay galleries give visitors the opportunity to come face-to-face with giant tunas, sea turtles, sharks and jelly fish. Other permanent and temporary collections offer equally unique and interactive views of the sea.
