Completed in 1580 and now home to the 7th Marquee of Bath, Longleat House is set within 900 acres of landscaped parkland, with a further 8000 acres of woodland, lakes and farmland surrounding it. A tour of the house is available, taking in the sites of the Great Hall, State dining room, grand staircase and saloon and shows the changes made over the centuries to what is one of the finest examples of high Elizabethan architecture in Britain. You might even bump into Lady Louisa Carteret, the most famous of the Longleat ghosts.

Longleat is more than just a stately home, in 1966 Longleat created a revolution by becoming the first location outside Africa to have a drive-through safari park, despite concerns of roaming lions in Wiltshire. Here you can see if your car is up to the task amongst the zebras, rhinos, giraffes, lions, wolves and those meddlesome monkeys. If you still want more there are VIP tours, which get you one of the park wardens for the day as you ride round and will give you a little more insight into the animal's lives. Longleat's lakes also offer a nice place to while away the day by the shore, offering some of the best coarse fishing in Britain.
