Japanese artisans and craftsmen working to the highest standards in the traditional arts, like lacquer work, weaving, dying and ceramics for example are considered national living treasures. This is the kind of work on displayed at the Japan Traditional Craft Centre.
Established to raise the profile of these artisans and of traditional and modern Japanese design, the works here are also for sale from between 1,500 yen and a million. This isn't tourist trash but unique pieces from the best skilled artisans from all over Japan. Upstairs is an exhibition space for larger collections.
