Watch instructors teach horseback riding as you drink a beer or a cup of coffee from the balcony cafe of the Hollandsche Manege, one of the last remaining riding schools in Europe. Amsterdam's indoor riding school was built in 1882, designed by Al Van Gendt who was inspired by the famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna, and restored in the 1980s.
Inside the school the riding track ornamented with balustrades and decorations gives a feeling of royalty and the balcony cafe gives you the perfect view of the equestrian arts and the riders in action. The renaissance style of the building, gallery for the orchestra and the foyer with the parquet floors shows off a style of architecture and interior design that has hardly changed over the years.
The practical side of the school is a modern and welcomes everyone, no matter the age or the riding ability. Lessons range from starters and private lessons to carousel, and jumping, and you can hire your horse for your lesson.
