At the moment “Ground Zero”, a name borrowed from the site of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima is not much to look at. Plans for a densely planted memorial site are still in progress, but this doesn’t take anything away from the poignancy of what remains here now. To stand against the fence that borders the site and to try and picture the monumental buildings that once stood there really is staggering. It is not unusual to see the relatives of victims still mourning, alongside tourists taking photos of each other in front of the chasm. Visiting Ground Zero may not be to everyone’s tastes, but it is a truly unique and haunting experience.
