A guided tour through this former prison gives you a real life history lesson through Ireland's past and about the notorious names that once occupied the cells during the Irish Revolution. The jail was in use from the 1780s to the 1920s and is now one of the largest unoccupied prisons in Europe.
The tour takes about 90 minutes and includes a video presentation that gives you background info on the Revolution and a walking tour through the prison cells and yard. The guides tell you many stories about how the prisoners behaved and lived their day to day lives here. Some of them were executed and there is a memorial in the yard for those men.
