Flames of the Forest Experience

A lot of visitors to Australia are hoping to have some kind of authentic aboriginal experience when they visit, but it's not an easy thing to find offered in most of the hubs that travellers visit - Alice Springs being the main exception. Flames of the Forests aims to share some of the rich aboriginal culture with visitors - like one of the flamenco dining experiences you find in South America, where the food is good and local and the show aims to give you an idea of the colourful culture of the region.

It's a whole evening's worth of entertainment, including a six or seven course meal and a storytelling performance. They bring everyone out to the forest from their hotels in Port Douglas (10mins away) or Cairns (50mins away)and drop them off a way from the dining pavilion so that you walk through the beautifully lit forest to get there, sipping champagne nervously in the silence of the forest, through which gradually grows the sound of didgeridoos.

The set up of lighting and outdoor dining is pretty spectacular looking, and once there you'll be settled into the evening's entertainment, both culinary and cultural. The performances include music and storytelling, all augmented with stunning lighting shows and of course the complimentary drinks.

It's not a cheap evening, at $200+ it's quite expensive by Australian standards, but it's certainly an easy way to get a taste of the 40,000 years of aboriginal culture that's existed in this region, and of course the area's local delicacies.
