The Star Ferry, ferrying between Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon and Hong Kong Central Island is the cheapest way to get out on the harbour and enjoy the Hong Kong view – the only cheaper one is the complimentary one you get when landing at the airport.
The best views are absorbed by the eyeballs of the people sitting on the right side of the boat because the docks get in the way on the left, and it’s even better if you can bags a position on the upper deck which is a tiny bit more expensive. The ferry docks beside the Convention Centre.
For a bit more you can go on the Star Ferry circular harbour tour, which runs once an hour and takes more time to show you the scenery to the accompaniment of an audio tour. The price of the scenic route hikes up in the evenings, but if you go around 6pm you’ll get the best of both worlds.
If a good story adds to the experience for you, you might be interested to learn that this ferry company has been operating these routes, or very similar ones, since 1888.
