Claiming to be Canada’s wonder of the world, the CN Tower has a decent claim. At a height of 553.33m it was the world’s tallest building (until the Burj Dubai showed up), whilst actually performing a telecommunications function and being the centerpiece of Toronto tourism, with some two million visitors a year. Built in 1976 so that Toronto could get better reception after the 1960s skyscraper boom caused problems, the CN Tower is also an uncharacteristic monument to Canadian arrogance, built to show off the strength of Canadian industry.
Obviously with the world’s second tallest building stunning views are part and parcel but there is more to the CN Tower. There are restaurants and cafés to admire the view from and the building also houses an arcade and a ‘motion theatre ride’ as well as the showing of a twenty minute documentary about the building of the tower.
