Inside the beautiful castle of Budavári Palota, the Budapest History Museum presents Budapest’s turbulent history up until the end of the communist era. Most of the collection was discovered during the excavation of the original buildings of the castle which have been built over several times and were revealed again during the Second World War, but the museum also attempts to give insights into the history of the whole Carpathian region. The earliest items in the collection come from the pre-Roman days and some of the most interesting help tell the story of the unification of Buda and Pest. The castle itself is one of the main reasons to visit. Most of the descriptions are only written in Hungarian so invest in the audio guide.
