If you’re looking at an authentic New Orleans Mardi Gras float, chances are, it was made here at Blaine Kern’s Studio, a Mardi Gras institution. For over 60 years Mr. Kern and his artists have been creating the magnificent floats seen at Mardi Gras in this warehouse on the Mississippi River.

After being ushered into the building, take the opportunity to dress up in the authentic Mardi Gras garb for a picture before sitting down to watch a movie about the history of the holiday. Then, follow your guide into the warehouse, where your eyes will feast upon the splendid colour and sheer magnitude of these works of art. Learn about the stories layered between the sheets of papier-mâché and the culture of krewes, the groups that participate in the floats. Having seen the work and craftsmanship that go into the making of these masterpieces, never again will you be able to look at Mardi Gras the same.
