This house was constructed by Adelicia Hayes Franklin and her husband Joseph Alexander Smith Acklen and was completed in 1853. The house has 36 rooms and totals 19,000 square feet.

The grounds contained an array of different buildings with amazing functions such as a bowling alley, aviary, lake, gardens, conservatories and even a zoo. The zoo had bears, monkeys, peacocks, a white owl and alligators. The tour itself takes about an hour with 15 minutes upstairs and 45 minutes downstairs. Admission ranges from free to $10 depending on age.

The museum is open on Monday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm and on Sunday from 1pm to 4pm.
