Amalia Hernández started this dance company with eight dancers in 1952, its aim being to present and preserve pre-Hispanic folk dances from all over Mexico. The company has survived for almost 60 years and some of the pieces being performed haven't changed in that time, sometimes not even the traditional costumes are different, so it would seem that they've succeeded in their goals so far.

The company performs most Wednesdays and Sundays in the Palace of Fine Arts.
