Yeah, you've been to Paris and the Arc de Triomphe, but this is the maddest, biggest, fastest and most insane set of road crossings you'll hopefully ever encounter. Surrounding Tahrir are the Umar Makram Mosque, the American University in Cairo, The Arab League, other assorted government buildings, a few hostels and some cafes. One in particular, Ali Baba, has a bit of a hackneyed name but is famous and was the favourite of the recent Nobel laureate/Egyptian novelist, Naguib Mahfouz.
