The Prince Rupert Hotel

Aside from hosting gruesome ghostly happenings, the Prince Rupert contains some elegant Tudor and 12th century theme suites, with four-poster beds decadently swathed in designer fabric drapes and even a couple of oak-pannelled bathrooms with Victorian roll-top baths in pride of place, so you can enjoy a retro soak to prepare yourself for any spooky encounters. The building itself, though decked out with a fully equipped gym and spa and an excellent modern restaurant, dates back to the 15th century and has a gloriously evocative half-timbered façade which looks out onto Butcher Row, right at the centre of Medieval Shrewsbury. Depending on your point of view, you may have the privilege of witnessing examples of the regular poltergeist activity reported at the hotel, or even waking to discover the shade of a hanged woman suspended in your room.
