For the ultimate in safety, spend your overnight stays in The Hague in a bright orange survival pod. The hard ones not the blow up ones, these look like flying saucers, with a rim midway round like a bowl and tiny square windows. Inside you can expect to find sleeping bags and an ‘emergency’ chemical toilet, and supposedly enough room for three, but you can upgrade to premium themed packages which include survival rations, bikes, or DVD players, depending on how ‘survival’ you’re prepared to go.
The rumour is that one of them is decked out with a disco mirror ball, subdued lighting and silk sleeping bags, perfect to re-enact the final scenes of from ‘From Russia with Love’ in. The pods are moored in a quiet area, but you might want to heed the warning that there will be some rocking, whether you’re sharing your pod pad with a Bond femme fatale or not.
