The cave hotels in Urgup are all much the same and The Elkep Evi is no exception. Sitting on the edge of the Goreme National Park, it offers cave rooms with traditional Turkish decoration and terraces, with views over the valley. The rooms are natural caves formed in the side of a hill giving views across the valley and the exposed stone walls stay cool despite the mid-summer heat and warm even when it’s chilly. Arrangements can be made to take you on tours of the region, often lead by the hotel owner who is a certified tour guide, or hot air balloon tours where you can view the huge rock formations from 3000 feet up. Some of the rooms have traditional Turkish baths and the food is traditional Turkish cuisine with fresh breakfast of homemade pancakes with potato and cheese or yoghurts, cereal and bread for the less adventurous. However the caves are not a rarity in the area and there are several other hotels which will offer a similar experience, although the Elkep Evi does have the added bonus of an outdoor swimming pool.
