Closet cowboys get a chance to try out the life of a real cowboy on working guest ranches. As well as riding through spectacular, remote country, getting out of the rat race and forgoing creature comforts for a simpler life, guests can learn to work cattle and participate in the day to day running of a ranch. Some ‘holiday’ ranches offer the classes in a resort setting without the real experience, while some are still working ranches able to include you in a ‘round up’, which is usually very much a working holiday - up at 7 to feed the livestock, in the saddle by 8:30 and penning or roping cattle in the afternoon.
