A trek along this mountain range is more than just a hike; it’s part pilgrimage, part culinary and wine adventure, and certainly the best way to straddle the two countries of France and Spain from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea.

A 7-day moderate to strenuous trek starting in the Basque country in Spain, through high pastures and jagged rocky peaks, then traverses a lunar landscape to the highest peak, Mount Aneto, and ends in Monserrat, near Barcelona. Inhabited since Neolithic times, these mountain areas have witnesses the crossing of Moorish armies, heretic persecutions, pilgrimages, and more recently a revival of their cultural heritages and traditions. Definitely a must do trek! June to September are the best months for this trip.

One of the classic cross-country long-distance footpaths routes is the GR11. This is more than a 7-day moderate trek. It could take a month to do it, but it can be done in sections (of course) and still be a superb route. To incorporte Pico Aneto would be a bit much if you are carrying rucksack hut-to-hutting. Actually, the GR 11 doesn't pass Aneto, but offers a circuit version (3 days) of the second-highest peak in the Pyrenees (Posets). There are guide books in English. un saludo. jjane

Where can I find the itinerary for the route you mentioned ?

Nadia Le Bon recommended this trek, and I imagine it's one of the ones she's done with the company she works for, called Mountain Sobek - you can clink though to the website by clicking on her name - that's probably your best chance to finding the exact itinerary.
