Listed under Trekking in Tasmania, Australia.
The South Coast Track is regarded as one of Australia's great wilderness challenges. As the name suggests, the track itself traverses the far south of the Island of Tasmania, an area that is entirely World Heritage Listed wilderness.
The track is so stunningly remote, most walkers charter a small plane to fly them to the bush airstrip at Melaleuca. They then have the challenge of walking over 70km across moorlands, beaches, rocky headland and cool temperate rainforests. Not to mention lagoon and river crossing and climbing over the 900m high Ironbound Range.
Generally regarded as a hardened bushwalkers wilderness walk, the South Coast Track appeals to those who enjoy the challenge and wish to escape the crowds on the Overland Track.
