The Sahara desert is a unique environment; trek deep into the sand and you lose all sense of direction, time, stress and sound! Absolute bliss.
Five days is enough trekking to experience this wonderful place, wandering apparently aimlessly into oblivion, changing direction every now and again as the Guide 'guides' you along. You can walk for miles in this ultrafine, soft sand in bare feet without fear of treading on anything. Don't underestimate the coolness either, even though the sun is up over the horizon at 7am, the heat didn't really get going until about 10am. As soon as you lose the sun in the early evening, the temp will drop too so pack a warm top! Average temperatures in Jan 08 are about 28 deg C, down to low single figures at night.
You camp on what is effectively the river bed; very hard baked sand. The normal soft sand is way too soft to consider pitching a tent on it.
Great trip, not forgetting the drive in where you can come from Marrakech over the High Atlas and down through Ouarzazate and along the Draa valley. Stunning.
