A 15-day, 146 mile-long, strenuous wilderness trail in the California’s High Sierra named after our most celebrated naturalist. It is considered the most beautiful long-distance trail in the world, with an unsurpassed panorama of 13,000-14,000-foot peaks, countless lakes, wildflower-covered meadows and huge granite walls. The trail ends with the climb of Mount Whitney at 14,495’. It is a tough and demanding trip over rugged terrain and lots of elevation changes. Mostly hiked by backpackers, special arrangements can be made for a mule-supported trip. August is the best month for this trip.

difficult uphill stairway

Years ago I hiked & loved it all so passionatly. Often 3 weeks out, off season & made it up to a peak along the John Muir Trail that included a difficult climb up a Stairway. I dont remember the name but do recall it was really steep-I gained alot of elevation along this stairway but eventually made it up. Lots of tears- at that time I weighed 110lbs & my pack weighed almost as much as me. Does anyone know the name of this stairway? Queston #2-The highest I had climbed along this awesome trail was a peak around 12,200 ft.on the way to Mt Whitney. It was a glacier-does anyone know the name of this peak? Funny thing was there wasa frozen Monarch Butterfly when I got to the top. I have many awe inspiring stories of my many trips up there-Yosemite,Kings Canyon. Anyone out there want to hear?
