Surrounded by historic Transylvania’s hills, Sighisoara was built in the 12th Century by Saxon German craftsmen and builders whose work was admired by the Hungarian King. Much admired for its medieval architecture the city was also one of Transylvania’s most important cities economically and artistically - there were many local branches of artisan and craftsmen’s guilds which furthered the city’s looks. Vlad Dracul, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s dark prince was born here in the 15th Century, there is a small plaque on the wall of the house, now a restaurant and museum.
