Cannes is best known for its Festival de Cannes in May, the most famous film festival in the world - and second for its topless beaches and chic designer stores and restaurants. Although closed off to most of the public, this festival attracts well-known artists of the movie industry, as well as groupies who want to catch a glimpse of them. You could say the same about breasts and the implant industry. When the film festival is not going on, Cannes is a playground for a rich and glamourous crowd - the epitome of the Cote d'Azur, and the city equivalent of St Tropez. If you want to hob-nob with these people and pretend to be rich, stay in Nice and train it over for the day. If you are rich, there are no end of five star hotels on La Criossette - the wide promenade road - to choose from. Better still, tie up your yacht in the marina.
