This monument is a set of three set in Washington DC. The three monuments are located in different directions with the Ulysees S. Grant Memorial being in the center of the three. The James A. Garfield Monument is located to the south and the Peace Monument is located to the north. This decorative statue is located at the base of Capitol Hill between Pennsylvania and Maryland Avenues.

This statue is the second largest equestrian statue in the United States and the third largest in the world. It is second only to the Don Juan de Onate in El Paso, Texas. The statue is made of bronze and marble and was constructed by Henry Merwin Shrady and Edward Pearce Casey.
