A celebrated Khmer ruler of the 12th and 13th centuries, King Jayavarman helped the Angkor Empire thrive with successful military campaigns and the construction of many society-benefiting buildings like hospitals and Buddhist temples. His public works were so revered that his image was immortalized in stone, depicting the king in sublime meditation like the Buddha who inspired his good deeds.
