The Bulguksa Temple is in fact a peaceful, delicately beautiful complex of ornate stone pagodas and bridges, set in serene gardens and surrounded by lush forests. It is home to seven of South Korea’s famous national treasures, including two heavy, shining gilt-bronze statues of Buddha and the Blue Cloud Bridge. Along with the cliff top Seokguram Grotto hermitage, which lies four kilometres to the east and contains some of the world’s best Buddhist sculpture, it is considered to be South Korea’s most important historic site.
