The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the Hindu religions most famous and revered temples.  Vishwanatha is the ruler of the universe and this is his temple and one of Lord Shiva's twelve Jyotirlingams is enshrined here and a single look at a Jyotirlingam is supposed to liberate a believer from the entanglements of the world and set him back on the right path.

The current structure is thought to have been erected in 1780, but the original was supposed to have been built in 1490.  This isn't one temple structure either, it's a complex of smaller temples, each with different functions and serving different lower deities.  One of the interesting structures is a well called the Wisdom Well.

The temple is crowded into the lanes by the Ganges.  You can reach it via Vishwanatha Lane.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple Varanasi opens daily at 2:30 am. Aarati is performed five times, daily. Mangala Aarti is from 3 am to 4 am. Then it is opened for devotees from 4 am to 11 am. From 11.30 am to 12 noon, mid-day Bhog Aarti is done. Again from 12 noon to 7 pm, devotees can worship.  From 7 pm to 8.30 pm, evening Sapta Rishi Aarti is done. After that devotees can visit till 9.00 pm, when Sringar/Bhog Aarti starts. After 9.00 pm, devotees can worship from outside only. Shayan Aarti starts at 10.30 PM and the Kashivishwanath Temple closes at 11 pm.
