The Brihadeeswarar Temple at Thanjavur is one of three that make up the Great Living Chola Temples, a World Heritage site. Built in the 10th century, it exemplifies the Dravidian style of architecture that was popular at the time. Frescoes adorn the ceilings, and the shrines of Hindu deities ornament the temple’s interior and exterior. To this day it remains a place where members of the Hindu faith come to worship Shiva.
