Surfing Saint Leu, Reunion

Listed under Surfing in Saint-Paul, Reunion.

The best waves off the coast of St. Leu are big hollow left point reef breaks on coral. Trade winds mean good swell, especially in winter. It can be a long ride but it barrels easily so probably best for experienced surfers only, the wave wraps around the bay and just keeps going. The water is pretty clear so you can see the coral coming at you, but take it slow at first to get used to the possibility of a gashing. The mid section is probably the fastest but a locals may correct me on that -I was there for five days. At the end of it after getting used to the reef I was getting rides of about 200m. July to September is supposed to be the best time here but again locals may want to correct me.
