Henley-on-Todd Regatta

Listed under Spectator Sports in Northern Territory, Australia.

Based on the long standing, formal rowing event between Oxford and Cambridge Universities at Henley on Thames, the Henley-on-Todd has one major difference. Though also a boat race, the Todd is dry at this time of year, so racers build bottomless boats and run or are dragged or pushed along the sandy river bed. The final event of the day is the modified truck race where trucks made up as boats are raced while participants throw water bombs and flour at each other. As the worlds only dry river race it is the only regatta to be cancelled due to rain… Racers come to compete in the regatta from far and wide, as do spectators and it’s cheap to enter at only A$10 for adults and A$5 for children (A$25 for families.).
