In 1923 the first FA Cup final was played under the illustrious Twin Towers between Bolton and West Ham. The legends surrounding that famous day, where 200 000 people squeezed into Wembley and the mounted guard PC George Scorey on his famous white horse Billy, have lived long and are still to be found in the recesses of the British conciousness.
The rebuilding of the stadium may have been so arduous because many still cling to cherished memories of a bygone era, even though it was obvious a re-design was needed to meet the needs of the modern game. The people now have the arch of Wembley to feel inspired by as they walk down towards the stadium. Indeed the arch inspires further afield, as a new attraction to the London skyline.
English football fans have received negative press over the last two decades but the trouble that followed them a few years ago is receding and a visit to Wembley for a national game will white-knuckle thrill and charge you to action in equal measure, unless of course you support England!
